Proje Özeti

Japan Teacher Education system is a centralized system (MEXT, 2019) similarly Turkish Education system and one basic Education Law (1949) is evident. This centralized system is applied in all areas related to education. Japanese government decides and controls every ministries’ budget including MEXT. Mainly, teacher education content, lesson, assessment, and the curriculum are standardized by independent organizations, universities and by the MEXT. Content Standards and Professional Core Standards for Teacher Education, Standards for Universities (National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation, 2015) are in use for teacher education and physical education (MEXT, 2019; Nakai & Metzler, 2005). However, qualitative results showed that academicians were not contented and thought that it is not appropriate for Japanese society. Academicians view about teacher education is categorized with content analyses (Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2018). Basically, nine themes were created form the interview with 8 full-time academicians in the National University of Education. These themes were: a) Professional development, b) academic and organizational duties, c) defining education, d) teacher qualifications, e) teacher education problems and future, f) teacher certification content, g) diversity in academic and student, h) teacher certification system and i) teacher education curriculum.
