The
Extract of Cupressus
sempervirens cone extracted by Supercritical fluid CO2 method
were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometric detection GC-MS. The
chemical composition of the C. sempervirens cone SC-CO2
extract is mainly composed of α-pinene (17.67 %), Cedrol (17.15 %), and Isosteviol methyl ester (11.79 %) as major compounds. The content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant
properties (DPPH
radical scavenging assay and FRAP methods) were
studied. The study of the
antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of the extract were investigated.
While C. sempervirens SC-CO2 extract showed a low phenolic
content, it showed a high reducing power and a strong DPHH reduction activity.
This shows that several compounds with very high antioxidant properties were
extracted by SC-CO2. The high reducing power and the strong DPPH
reduction activity indicate the high antioxidant capacity of the extract. While
this SC-CO2 extract does not have an antibacterial effect, it is
significant that it has antibiofilm activity against P. aeruginosa and E.
faecalis bacteria. The SC-CO2 extract of C.
sempervirens cone exhibited a good repellent effect; as at the 20 μL.cm-²
oil doses caused 100 and 100 % repellency of S. granarius (Wheat weevil) and A. obtectus (bean weevil), respectively.
According to the results obtained, it can be concluded that SC-CO2
extract of Cupressus sempervirens cone recorded a good repellent effect
(57 %) against S. granarius exceeds that of A. obtectus (53 %). This effect was evident at 4 µL dose. The lethal dose
(LD50) of the C. sempervirens cone extract was determined as
0.12 µL mL-1 for both insect specimens.
