The field of art
is a dynamic field of production that has been constantly evolving from its
beginning to the present and constantly changing with social, economic,
scientific and social developments. These changes in the field of art lead to
differences in social taste judgments on the one hand, and in the methods and
models of art education on the other.
In today's art
world, especially with the postmodern process, the structure and definitions of
art have also changed. While
contemporary art strives to break down past patterns of taste, it has paved the
way for new forms of expression, different production techniques and material
uses, and brought new subject contents to the agenda. By introducing different
disciplines instead of classical approaches, it has begun to create a new field
of expression for itself and to adopt new forms of expression by using new
techniques and material possibilities. While this change that dominates
contemporary art has stretched the classical definitions of art, it has also
begun to expand the boundaries of art with an interdisciplinary approach.
This situation has
revealed the necessity of change both in institutions that provide art
education and in universities that train visual arts teachers, and the
importance of an education model compatible with contemporary art.
As a matter of
fact, according to Özsoy, today's rapid developments in the fields of science
and technology have evolved into a period where paradigmatic transformations
challenge the education system. Based on this, the education systems existing
in the world and in our country lose their effectiveness over time and become
unable to meet the needs of the society. For this reason, the education system
must constantly renew itself within a structure that will lead the development
and progress of society. (Özsoy, 2015:19)
This need has
created a need to improve new perspectives parallel to contemporary art,
especially in institutions providing art education and in universities'
departments that train visual arts teachers. The main purpose of this need is
to "scientifically assist in the shaping of art pedagogy processes in
terms of content organization, method and instruction (didactics) and thus to
increase the effectiveness of art education." In addition, it is to
develop the theoretical foundations of the "system of processes, rules,
assumptions and expectations". (San, 2010:19)
The importance of
the course in question for prospective teachers is that art can act as a
catalyst in the development of societies only if it has a character that
supports new approaches. In Götze's words, "What is important in drawing a
picture is education through art, not education for art's sake" (San 74).
At this point, it becomes a necessity to review the Major Art Workshop
strategies an up-to-date.
These factors,
which play a major role in the education of qualified visual arts teachers in
their fields, are possible by developing an education model parallel to
contemporary art approaches together with comprehensive workshop practices. In
addition to the courses included in the education curriculum, especially the
"Major Art Workshop" constitutes the focal point and most important
aspect of this education model. Considering the hours of the course in
question, it will be seen that it is one of the most important main lesson in
terms of education and student outcomes.
The study to be
carried out within the framework of this importance is to develop an up-to-date
and effective education model in the "Major Art Workshop" courses,
which have a wide place in the Department of Art and Craft Education, to
determine the weaknesses and strengths of the current application forms, to find
alternative solutions to solve the problems that arise regarding the course, It
aims to create an up-to-date educational program that is accurate, effective
and responsive to student needs regarding its content.
The main purpose of
the project to be carried out in this context is to analyze the "Main Art
Workshop" courses given at Onseki Mart University Faculty of Education,
Fine Arts Education by determining their differences and similarities with
other universities in terms of method, content and application. The findings
obtained from the research are expected to contribute to education by
identifying the adequacies and inadequacies of the course in question and
offering solution suggestions on the subject.
