Rational drug use is an application aimed at reducing drug costs. With the increase in the use of drugs, there is an increase in public expenditures due to the state contribution paid for insured patients. The aim of this study is to present the effects of drug use behaviors on public finances in different generations in Turkey in the form of policy recommendations for rational drug use and awareness raising, without reducing the quality of health care services. A qualitative research method was used in this study. The sample used in the research consists of different generations between March 2023 and April 2023. Data were collected through a form consisting of nine semi-structured questions. Interviews with the participants were held online via “Google Meet”. The content analysis method was used in the evaluation of the data. The analysis of the data was made with the MAXQDA 2020 program. Three themes, namely "medicine", "cost" and "recovery", were determined with the codes obtained from the qualitative research conducted to determine the effects of attitudes and behaviors regarding drug use in different generations on public finances. As a result, intergenerational differences were determined in the findings related to the sub-themes obtained in the in-depth qualitative interviews. In the cost and recovery themes created in the study, the lack of knowledge of the participants was determined.
