Özet

From ancient times to the present, the common belief that gemstones have supernatural power. The phenomenon is the result of the excellent crystal structures, eye-catching colors, electrical-magnetic properties of these stones. For this reason, the stones have been used as a complementary method in alternative medicine for centuries. In this study, the people's interest in natural stones and the relationship between this interest and the placebo effect were specially investigated from the scientific perspective of postgraduates. The ways in which this stones for healing purpose used all over the world are very similar to each other. Therefore, the healing perception of the stones on people can be investigated using the questionnaire technique. In field work, survey participants were selected from academic staff visiting COMU Earth Sciences and Natural History Museum. The survey data were evaluated using the SPSS program. As a result, it has been revealed that seeking healing from gemstones is not a scientific method from the point of view of academics, but it is no harmful to try them. In addition, since most of the stones in the market are artificial stones with the increasing demand in recent years, it has been concluded that the expected healing from these stones is the psychologically based placebo effect.
