Özet

© Karadeniz Technical University. All rights reserved. This study sought to examine prospective teachers’ logical reasoning ability using the predictive variables of interest including gender and academic majors. The Cognitive Development Test designed by Longeot (1962, 1965) was translated and adapted from English to Turkish and then was used to collect data from prospective teachers. The results revealed that the test is valid and reliable for measuring logical reasoning ability. The test consists of two sections, concrete and formal processing. The prospective teachers did not have difficulty understanding and solving concrete tasks on the test. There were no significant differences in the formal and overall test scores between males and females. Significant differences were found in concrete, formal and overall test scores favoring mathematics majors.
