Özet

Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer. Cytokines may represent general idea about presence of neoplasia and can be used as biomarkers to evaluate prognosis of colon cancer diagnosed by biopsy. Specifically, TNF-α, IL-6, VEGF levels are suggested to associate with clinical stage. TNF-α contributes to colon tumour growth. IL-6 is a growth factor for human colon cancer cells, also promotes angiogenesis through induction of VEGF expression.
This study aims to investigate serum cytokine levels of preoperative patients with colorectal cancer, to evaluate the prognostic significance. TNF-α, IL-6 and VEGF levels in serums of 30 preoperative patients were compared with 30 control patients whose colorectal cancer diagnosis was excluded by colonoscopic biopsy. Cytokine levels were determined by ELISA kits. TNF-α levels of colorectal cancer group were statistically significantly lower than .
