Özet

Aim: Anterior crossbite describes the abnormal labiolingual relationship between one or more maxillary and mandibular incisors. Clinically, it is expressed as reverse overjet, in which one or more maxillary incisors are positioned more palatal than mandibular incisors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the effectiveness of removable appliances with Z-springs used in single-tooth anterior crossbite and the dental parameters of the related teeth. Methods: Patients who applied to the Pediatric Dentistry Clinics and had a single-tooth anterior crossbite in the intraoral examination were treated by using removable appliances with Z-springs. Overjet, overbite, and crown length in the related tooth were measured using dental plaster models and intraoral photographs using a caliper. Independent sample t-test was used to compare dental parameters and treatment time between sexes. The relationship between dental parameters, treatment duration, and age was evaluated by Pearson Correlation Analysis. Results: Six (50%) of 12 patients aged 93–145 months (mean±standard deviation: 113.42±17.77) included in the study were male. No statistically significant difference was observed between the sexes in terms of overjet, overbite, crown length, and treatment duration (p>0.05). Also, no statistically significant correlation was observed between the measures of overjet, overbite, and crown length, treatment duration, and patient age (p>0.05). Conclusions: Although Z-spring removable appliances are an effective treatment option in single-tooth anterior crossbite cases, there is no relationship between the treatment duration and the age of the patient and the measures of overjet, overbite, and crown length concerning the tooth in the crossbite.
