Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the library works of Çanakkale People’s Houses and People's Rooms operating in Çanakkale between 1932 and 1951. In the study, important documents of the period such as reports, correspondence, books and magazines were examined with the method of documentary source scanning. The information obtained was analyzed from the perspective of the five elements of the library: Building, staff, budget, collection and user. in Çanakkale; It has been determined that there are 8 Çanakkale People’s Houses and 92 People's Rooms, including Çanakkale, Gelibolu, Bayramiç, Eceabat, Ayvacık, Biga, Ezine, Lapseki. A librarian was employed at the Çanakkale People’s House for a salary of 50 Lira, and at the Biga People’s House for a daily wage of 1 Lira. The first collection of Çanakkale People’s House Library is 300 books from Çanakkale Turkish Society. Çanakkale People’s House Library has reached users with its publication activities, as well as providing mobile library services in order to increase the library usage rate of users. Çanakkale People’s House Library and Publication Branch publications; Anafarta Magazine, Köylü Wall Newspaper, a series of articles published in Çanakkale Vilayet Newspaper, "From the People's House to the Public", and the books named Çanakkale from Past to Present and Çanakkale in the 15th Anniversary of the Republic. Çanakkale People’s House and People's Rooms, like others, were officially closed throughout the country in 1951. Comprehensive and sufficient information about the fate of libraries and books could not be reached.
