β-Lactam antibiotics are used for the prevention
and treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. They
show their antibacterial properties by inhibiting the cell wall of bacteria.
They are generally formed by combining imine and ketene. Within the scope of
the study, firstly, imine was obtained by using 5 different aromatic aldehydes
(4-Ph-, 4-OMe-, 4-F, 4-CH3- and 4-NO2) starting from
1-naphthylamine in the presence of methanol under hot conditions and then 10
different β-lactam derivatives were obtained by reacting the obtained imines
with dichloroacetylchloride and acetoxyacetylchloride in the presence of
benzene. The structures of the obtained compounds were elucidated by FT-IR, 1H
NMR and 13C NMR spectra.
