Abstract

The purpose of this project research is to minimize waste and optimize productivity with implementing 5S workplace organization methodologies program in egg processing facilities located in Bandirma, Turkey. A Japanese developed 5S system means improving operational efficiencies, reduce operational steps, improve the overall cleanliness, efficacy, safety and productivity of processing plant and ensuring processing operationsjust-in time manufacturing while reduce waste. The 5S philosophy’s five S’s are sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain. The objective of this study was to evaluate implementing of 5S systems into egg processing plant to reduce waste process and non-value adding activity while improve product quality for continuous improvement. Therefore, the processing plant divided into 4 different areas (laboratory, production area, cake, and technical workshop) for improvement in management and assigning responsibilities to different individuals. After the study the success grade in 5S project was 99.04; 98.43; 93.84 and 99.27 for each department, respectively.

The results reported that, the application of 5S system can help enhance overall reduce of waste for operational efficiencies.  In particular, this study showed that 5S methodology could be applicable for egg processing plant in maintaining the productivity of processing plant for long-term.
