Abstract

Osmotic fragility and fatty acid composition in erythrocytes of mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio) kept at 8degreesC, 16degreesC and 28degreesC were determined. Osmotic fragility in erythrocytes (EOF) increased significantly (0.19-0.24%) with the low water temperature. Significant declines in the quantity of saturated fatty acid (44.49-38.40%) and monounsaturated fatty acids (26.30-13.99%), and significant increases in that of polyunsaturated fatty acid (29.21-47.59%) were determined (P < 0.05). It was concluded that low water temperature caused a tolerable stress in mirror carps.
