Purpose: In Turkey, a limited number of the diabetes mellitus camps have been organized and diabetic children accepted to are camp fromall over the country. Most of the families were overly protective of their children and unwilling to send them to the distinct area for the camp. However diabet camps are a very important opportunity for education. We organized a local camp to encourage the family to separated from their children as well as to beducate the patients. Methods: The total 18 children with type I diabetes mellitus attended our camp at 14-16 June 1998. During camp, education activities, such as injection techniques, diet, hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, were continued with using interactive methods. Results: Knowledge of concume the diabetic products, affects of smoking, insulin dosage at hypoglycemic coma, instrument calibration, attitude of hiding their DM significantly changed after education. Conclusion: We showed the results of the education and discussed the advantages and importance of the local camp for the follow up of these patients and compared to the national camps.
