In the present research and analysis in relation are carried out
using the growth rates, isotopes and rare element time series of the
corallites taken from the coral reef site in Çanakkale Strait. The
basic idea behind this study is to show the relation between climate
parameters and the time series of the corallite parameters of the
Scleractinian coral Cladocora caespitosa. Used climate parameters
are sea surface temperature, ambient temperature, sunshine duration
and solar radiation. The present research is the investigation using
the corallite features of Cladocora caespitosa regarding to climate
and solar radiation for multidisciplinary purpose to show that coral
corallites can be used to reveal the climatic data globally. This study
also represents the first investigation on the age determination of C.
caespitosa living in the Turkish seas. We obtained the coral colony,
of which the corallite sample from the reef site resulted in an age
of 49 years with the retrospective expectations of sunshine duration
minimum and maximum values as 4,42-7,84 hours between the
years 1970 and 2019.
