Bovine Colostrum as a Nutraceutical: Developments in Processes and Products for Therapeutic and Dietary Applications, Elsevier, ss.421-448, 2026
Bovine colostrum (BC), the first milk produced after birth, is a valuable health supplement due to its high content of bioactive compounds and essential nutrients. This chapter examines the nutraceutical benefits of BC in areas such as immune system regulation, gastrointestinal health, improving athletic performance, and reducing inflammation. Recent clinical studies and advancements in processing techniques, including advanced pasteurization, spray-drying, and microencapsulation, have enhanced the application and efficacy of BC products in promoting human health. We provide a comprehensive overview of BC’s role as a nutraceutical, highlighting its potential to improve health outcomes and outlining future research directions. Additionally, we address challenges in BC production, including sourcing, standardization, and product safety.
