Özet

Objective: The aim of this study was to retrospectively examine the presenting diagnoses of individuals over the age of 65 who

presented to the emergency department and to determine the healthcare and educational needs of this age group.

Materials and Methods: The study was conducted by retrospectively reviewing the health records of individuals over the age

of 65 who presented to the emergency department of a university hospital between 2015 and 2025. Diagnosis, age, gender, and

consultation data were evaluated.

Results: The leading reasons for presentation were trauma (20.3%), cardiovascular diseases (7.5%), and gastrointestinal complaints

(6.1%). Cardiology (13.8%), radiology (9.7%), and chest diseases (9.0%) were the most frequently consulted departments.

Conclusion: The obtained data indicate that geriatric individuals primarily present to emergency departments due to traumatic,

cardiovascular, and metabolic problems. Therefore, it is recommended to increase training for older individuals and develop

multidisciplinary care approaches.
