Özet

This study was conducted aim to determine of the usability of Poly (lactic acid) [PLA] in plant germination studies as a carrier agent, and the effects of some essential oil compounds on germination ratio and seedling dry weight of spelt wheat (Titicum spelta L.) seeds. A factorial trial was conducted with two factors in laboratory conditions. The main factor was the application form of essential oil compounds (mixed or fixed to PLA and dripped onto PLA film surface). The second factor was the type of essential oil compounds (Carvacrol, Thymol, Geraniol, and Control). The effects of carvacrol and geraniol on the germination ratio and seedling dry weight of spelt wheat were statistically significant according to control while thymol was not statistically significant. The application type of essential oil compounds was statistically significant for germination ratio while it is not statistically significant for the seedling dry weight of spelt wheat. We can understand that carvacrol and geraniol have phytotoxic effects on spelt wheat. These results suggest that PLA can be used as a carrier for essential oil compounds in seed germination experiments. Essential oil compounds carvacrol and geraniol can be used for the improvement of new bio-herbicides due to their negative effects on seed germination and seedling development of the spelt wheat.
