This paper argues that, despite Spino- za’s explicit rejection of teleology and of aesthetic concepts such as beauty, his philosophy allows for a reconstruction of aesthetics grounded in the notion of power. By drawing an analogy with Spino- za’s treatment of moral values, I show that aesthetic concepts, though anthropocentric and non-ob- jective, retain a legitimate role within a reflective account of human life. Against mechanistic read- ings, the paper defends a dynamical interpretation of Spinoza’s ontology centered on conatus as active striving. Within this framework, imagination, when guided by reason, can be understood as an expres- sion of human activity rather than mere inadequacy. Art is thus interpreted as a domain in which human beings express and recognize their power of acting. Accordingly, beauty is redefined not as an objective property, but as the sensible manifestation of human freedom.
