In this study, effects of nano coatings deposited on cutting tools on cutting force, hole diameter and tool life were investigated in drilling of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel. Blind holes (13 mm) were drilled by TiAlN and nano TiAlN coated HSS drills under dry cutting conditions. Four different cutting speeds (10, 12, 14, 16 m/min) and three feed rates (0,04; 0,06; 0,08 mm/rev) were used as cutting parameters. The cutting tools were compared with each other in terms of cutting forces, hole diameters and tool life. Experimental results showed that nano TiAlN coating was superior to TiAlN coating in terms of cutting forces and ideal hole diameters. Tool life improvements in range of 20-40% were provided by nano TiAlN coatings when compared to TiAlN coatings depending on cutting parameters.
