Abstract

As one of the largest tells of the Gallipoli peninsula, Maydos Kilisetepe Höyük is situated on the European coast of the Çanakkale Strait. Sondages conducted in trenches at the western part of the mound revealed cultural levels dating from as early as the Late Chalcolithic period up to the present. The excavations, initiated in 2010, surprisingly also yielded significant archaeological evidence regarding the problematic Late Bronze Age and Dark Ages that witnessed the arrival of Sea Peoples and people from the Balkans.
