Özet

This study was conducted to address the data gap regarding the assessment of fire incidents occurring at the local level from a disaster management perspective and to identify the fundamental characteristics of these fires. The objective of the research is to examine the temporal, spatial, and causal distributions of fire incidents occurring in the central district of Konya. In this descriptive study, record forms for a total of 3,236 fires responded to by fire departments in the Selçuklu, Meram, and Karatay districts—which are under the jurisdiction of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department—between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2020, were analyzed. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 software package to determine percentages, averages, minimum, and maximum values. According to the findings, 82.6% of the fires were recorded as damaging, while 17.4% were recorded as non-damaging. Of the fires, 36.7% occurred in the Selçuklu district, 32.2% in the Karatay district, and 31.1% in the Meram district. An examination of the seasonal distribution revealed that 31.4% of the fires occurred during the summer. Intervention took place during the partial burning stage in 54.3% of the fires, while 13.0% were extinguished in the initial stage and 3.5% were extinguished after they had completely burned out. Additionally, it was determined that information regarding the extinguishing phase was missing in 29.0% of the records. As a result, it was determined that fire incidents are concentrated in specific periods and regions, cause significant material loss, and that there is a need to improve data integrity in fire record systems. In this context, it is recommended to strengthen risk mitigation efforts at the local level and develop standardized data management systems.
