Abstract

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the second most common cause of enterically transmitted hepatitis after hepatitis A virus infection. Little is known about the anti-HEV seroprevalence in our country. The main risk groups for HEV infection are pregnant women, infants, the elderly, immunocompromised individuals, patients with underlying chronic liver disease, and workers in close contact with HEV-infected animals. Seroprevalence studies conducted in risk groups can help answer the questions of whether the HEV vaccine is necessary for our country and if necessary, which groups should be vaccinated. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of HEV according to geographical regions and risk groups throughout our country.
