Abstract: The Sea of Marmara is an important fishing area in Turkey, as it is one of the key regions where fish migrations are
intensely observed. The coastline is characterized by numerous fishing shelters and slipways, as well as the use of various fishing
gear. This study aims to determine the technical characteristics of the fishing gear used in the Kapıdağ Peninsula and Islands Region
(Southern Sea of Marmara). The research was conducted between 2021 and 2022 in 11 fishing harbors in the region, involving
surveys with cooperative presidents, members, and fishermen. A total of 168 surveys were conducted. The study identified 9 different
bottom nets, 17 trammel nets, 13 gillnets, and 4 types of longline sets. The findings indicate that there is no standardization in the
fishing gear used in the region and that gillnets with varying specifications are employed for the same target species.
