V. INTERNATIONAL ISTANBUL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH CONGRESS, İstanbul, Türkiye, 14 - 15 Ağustos 2021, ss.158-159, (Özet Bildiri)
Fishing vessels are used in most of the activities carried out in the aquaculture sector. The captain and
crew work under various hazards in terms of occupational health and safety in aquaculture production
activities on fishing vessels. One of these hazards is noise. Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine
the noise levels of fishing ships used in extension and longline nets and the exposure levels of crews.
Scope: The study was carried out on the fishing ship used in the production of fisheries in Mersin, in
June and July. Method: The determination of the noise level, with international ratings IEC 61672-1:
2002 Type 2 class in accordance with the Testo 816-1 device was used. In the study, sound pressure
level dB(A) values were measured at the ear levels of the captain and crew, taking into account the TS
EN ISO 9612 standard, and the exposure levels were determined. Measurements were made for 3
different situations; before action is taken between the recipient and the source, after taking action and
different cruise time planning. Results: Equivalent sound pressure levels and daily exposure levels at
the captain's ear level; were determined to be in the ranges of 56-83 dB(A) and 76-80 dB(A),
respectively. These values for the crew; are in the range of 55-85 dB(A) and 77-82 dB(A) respectively.
The average equivalent sound pressure levels for the fishing vessel machinery at the loading and idling
operating positions; were determined to be 95 and 89 dB(A), respectively. Conclusions: It has been
determined that the crew is exposed to higher levels of noise compared to the captain during the 8hour
daily working period in the aquaculture production processes. Employees are exposed to higher levels of noise when control is not provided between the noise source and the receiver, and when noise exposure is not taken into account in scheduling the cruise. Employees on fishing ships are required to use personal protective earplugs for noisy activities.
