Recently it has become easier to find routing protocols designed for underwater acoustic sensor networks. The performance of a large number of protocols are evaluated using simulation software. Routing for underwater sensor networks is still an open topic and also there is a need for real life experiments, even there are tools which simulate underwater communication quite well. In this paper an energy aware underwater routing technique which aims to minimize the total energy consumption while maximizing the delivery ratio, is presented and the performance results are evaluated both with simulations and tests performed in the small test pool of Underwater Systems and Technology Laboratory (LSTS) of University of Porto.
