analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada farklı kimlik tipi kadının kamusal alanda çalışması fikrini desteklemezken;
In today’s world which is the age of multiple identities, to analyze the formation of the concept
of identity, the structures out of which this concept is produced as well as the concept itself
with its multiple dimensions have gained importance once again. While boundaries have
disappeared in the process of globalization on the one hand, there are new boundaries on
the other. Identity is a matter of awareness. Indeed, it is the process of making one’s way
of perception that develops unconsciously about him/herself visible. This is true on both
individual and social levels. Though different types of identity can result from dominant and
hegemonic institutions, they become identities only when social actors internalize them and
organize their meaning around this internalization. Some definitions of identity can coincide
with the social roles; for instance, “being a father” may be the most important identity in a
social actor’s view. But identities are more powerful sources of meaning than roles in the
process of self-development and individualization. Identities organize meaning, roles organize
a function. Meaning in this context is the symbolic definition a social actor attributes to the
purpose of his/her act. According to Castells, for many social actors in network society,
meaning is organized in relation to the main identity (which frames another one) which protects
itself in space and time. Charles Taylor (1989) places more emphasis on individual choice in
the formation of identity. Being the initiator of a language requires one to participate in the
ongoing dialogue between people who form the society with certain roles and status. Through
such a dialogue individuals would come across the ideas, cognitive structures, and experiences
in that language. Thus, they would acquire not only the language but also the understanding
of the world. Besides, they would come into contact with the beliefs, values and myths. This
study attempts to analyze the relation of different identity types (social role identity, local
and national identity, gender identity, religious identity, individual-based identity, political
identity) to different components (gender, technology, responsibility and justice). In the study
a quantitative research method, the questionnaire-survey is applied. The study centers on the
population (native and immigrant) living in the central Çanakkale region, and 200 people
were interviewed through purposive sampling. The acquired data were analyzed through SPSS
Windows program and by creating one-way and two-way frequency tables. In the study while
the different identity types do not support the working of the women in the public sphere, the
role of the gender is observed to be the determining factor in employment. At the same time,
there is a statistically meaningful connection between different identity types and technology (the effect of the program watched on TV, the time spent on the internet); different identity
types and responsibility; different identity types and justice.
