The use of the plasticity theory in the analysis of reinforced concrete elements depends primarily on the considered yield criterion. The present study deals with the finite element analysis of the granular core materials, like concrete, in which the friction forces in-between the cracked surface and the material cohesion are effective in growth of stable cracks. For this purpose, the analysis employs the `Drucker-Prager yield criterion'. A relation is proposed for the cohesion which is needed in the evaluation of parameters of Drucker-Prager criterion. Finally finite element applications of the plasticity model to reinforced concrete are carried out and results are presented.
