This study aims to evaluate the fishing vessel buy-back program implemented in Türkiye, using Çanakkale
Province as a case study. The implementation process of the program, along with its economic and ecological impacts,
have been analyzed. Within the scope of the study, buy-back data from 2000 to 2022 were examined, and qualitative
data were obtained through interviews with fishermen. The results indicate that 95% of the fishermen in Çanakkale
Province considered the fishing vessel buy-back program successful and beneficial. This study suggests that the
program has contributed to the downsizing of the fishing fleet and the development of future policies on buyback
programs, while also emphasizing that its social impacts should be carefully addressed.
