Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess the usefulness of mangafodipir
trisodium (Teslascan; Amersham Healt, Princeton,
NJ) in magnetic resonance imaging of biliary tract which
is the excretion way of the contrast agent. Teslascan is a
contrast agent which allows imaging of the gall bladder
and biliary tract during excretion via the biliary tract. It is
useful in determining the anatomic variations of biliary
tract, imaging of gall bladder and biliary tract via function
MR cholangiography and detecting biliary tract injury
after cholecystectomy.
Teslascan helps the differential diagnosis because of no
signal in cystic lesions neighboring biliary tract and pancreatic
duct on T1 weighted images. Therefore in imaging of
continuation of cysts and biliary tract in patients with choledoc
cyst and cysts that can not be differentiated from biliary
tract by MR cholangiography, Teslascan can be useful.
3 cases who were thought to have type I choledoc cyst, cystic
pancreatic head lesion and closed gall bladder perforation
on computed tomography and ultrasonography examination,
underwent magnetic resonance examination with
1.5 T. The cases were assessed on precontrast T1 and T2
weighted fast spin echo, postcontrast T1 weigted gradient
echo images.
In our study we evaluated mangafodipir trisodium as an
alternative method against MR cholangiography.
We think that imaging of biliary tract with Teslascan can
be an invasive alternative method in pathologies that can
not be explained by MR cholangiography.
