In thisstudy,thesynthesisofphthalonitrilederivativesbearing fluoro-functionalizedgroupsandtheirperipherally-tetrasubstitutedzincphthalocyaninecomplexeswerereported.Thephthalonitrilederiva-
tives 2a–5a werepreparedbynucleophilicsubstitutionof4-nitrophthalonitrilewith2-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]ethanol,2-{2-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]ethoxy}ethanol,2-(2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenoxy)ethanol,2-[2-(2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenoxy)ethoxy]ethanol,respectively.Zincphthalocyanines
bearing fluoro-functionalizedgroups(2b–5b) wereobtainedfromthecorrespondingphthalonitrile
derivatives.Thenewlysynthesizedphthalocyaninesdisplayedgoodsolubilityinorganicsolventssuchas
chloroform (CHCl3), dichloromethane(DCM),tetrahydrofuran(THF),toluene,dimethylformamide(DMF)
and dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO).Ontheotherhand,thesingletoxygen,photodegradation, fluorescence
quantumyieldsand fluorescence lifetimeofthesecomplexesweredeterminedinDMSO.Theeffectsof
the substitutionwith fluoro-functionalized groupsontheseparameterswerealsocompared.
