Özet

Traditional motifs, which show themselves on different objects and building elements from past to present, have an important place in Turkish Arts. Especially in the 13th century Seljuk art, the geometric motifs seen in wood, stone and tile decorations increased the value of our cultural heritage with their intensive use in compositions. Although geometric motifs were used as decoration elements in pre-Islamic periods, interior and exterior decoration of architectural structures reached a high level, especially in the Seljuk period. Star motifs are one of the main elements of the geometric arrangements that constitute the characteristic feature of the period. Although Yıldızlar has different numbers of corners, it has been used extensively in the stone and tile decoration of the architectural structures belonging to the Seljuks. Reflecting the term "unity in the multitude" with their continuous intertwining, the stars bear the most important basic motif feature that represents the architectural structure to the outside with its extensive use in crown doors. Besides having symbolic meanings related to the eternity of the universe, the star motif, also known as the symbolic meaning of Turkishness, has formed an important design heritage for today's ceramic tile industry with its rich pattern examples. In this article, Seljuk star motifs with different corner numbers are examined, their usage in today's industrial ceramic tile designs is investigated, the effect of the 13th century Seljuk traces on today's ceramic tile decor designs is explained, in order to keep the Seljuk star motif alive in today's contemporary ceramic tile designs, it is suitable for today's digital printing technology. sample tile design applications are presented.
