Abstract

The Mediterranean diet is a modern nutritional model that consisting of fruits, vegetables, olive oil and fish. In contrast, meat, milk and dairy 
products consumption is lower within the eating habits. The aim of the study to examine eating nutritional habits of the people living in the

The study was carried out during March 2012-June 2013 and a total of 110 healthy individuals (54 females and 56 males) ranging in age from 
43 to 93 were enrolled to study. The mean age were found 72.12 ± 9.37 year. Data were obtained from questionnaire showing the eating habits 
and the frequency of consumption of nutrients.
Data were obtained from questionnaire showing the eating habits and the frequency of consumption of nutrients was found as 55.45% only 
olive oil, 22.77% olive oil and sunflower oil, 10.9% olive oil and butter, 10.9% only sunflower oil. The average of weekly consumption of 
fruits, vegetables, legumes were found 4,5 ± 2,23; 3.38 ± 0.76 and 2.34 ± 0.62 respectively. In contrast the average consumption of meat was 
found 1.29 ± 0.76. However, bakery food consumption was 5.46 ± 2.60 per week. The use of vitamin supplements was 6.36% under medical 
supervision.
The results show a strong preference for olive oil consumption as well as vegetables, fruits and legumes. In contrast, the consumption of meats 
such as beef, venison, lamb, mutton are less preferred. The nutrition habit differs from Mediterranean diet with more consumption of bakery 
products. In conclusion, the compliance with Mediterranean-type diet is largely involved in the study subjects.
