The aim of this descriptive study, supported by the Health Authority of Trabzon and The Trabzon Office of Turkish Association for Cancer Research and Control, was to reveal the most common cancer sites in men and women from 1986 to 1995 in Trabzon and its surroundings. Data were obtained from the records of pathology laboratories in the province center and in some districts of Trabzon. Cytological diagnosis and malignant neoplasm of childhood were excluded. A total of 7046 records were classified according to histopathological diagnosis. The most common cancers were stomach, lung, bladder-kidney, prostate and colon-rectum among men, and breast, stomach, colon-rectum, ovary and bladder-kidney among women.
