Abstract

Five male, four female, and nineteen hermaphrodite Bufo bufo specimens were examined in terms of six hematological parameters, namely; red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. The erythrocyte count and hematocrit of hermaphrodite specimens were found to be more than those of males and females in the prereproductive period. When all parameters were compared between sexes during the reproductive period, no significant differences were encountered. In addition, red blood cell count and hematocrit values were found to be higher among all sexes in the reproductive period than in the pre-reproductive period.
