Kent kavramı kentte yaşayan insanları çevreleyen sınırlara sahip ve bu sınırlar içinde yaşayanlardan etkilenen
tüm değerlerin birleşimini içermektedir. Kent, sürekli değişen ve işleyen bir yapıdır. Bu değişimler kentin
doğal kaynaklarının toplum tarafından şekillendirilmesiyle oluşan bileşenlerin bütünüdür. Kentteki oluş ve
işleyişlerin farklılıkları ise o kentin kimliğidir. Kahramanmaraş, birçok eski uygarlığa yerleşim yeri olmuş,
Kurtuluş savaşında ilk madalya alan kent olması ile ‘Kahraman’ ünvanı almış bir İl’dir. Bu tarihi süreçte ev
sahipliği yaptığı toplumların kente yansıttığı kültürel değerler oldukça zengindir. Çalışmada
Kahramanmaraş’ın kültürel değerleri belirlenerek, kent kimliği tanımlanmıştır. Kente kimlik katan değerlerin
peyzaj mimarlığı çalışmalarına yansıtılmasının kent gelişimi açısından önemi ortaya konularak geliştirilmesi
amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Kahramanmaraş’a kimlik kazandıran kültürel değerler analiz edilmiş
ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The concept of city includes the combination of all the values that have borders surrounding the people living
in the city and are affected by those who live within these borders. The city is a constantly changing and
functioning structure. These changes are the totality of the components that are formed by the shaping of the
natural resources of the city by the society. The differences in being and functioning in the city are the identity
of that city. Kahramanmaraş is a city that has been a settlement for many ancient civilizations, and received
the title of "Hero" for being the first city to receive a medal in the War of Independence. In this historical
process, the cultural values that the societies it hosted reflect to the city are quite rich. In the study, the cultural
values of Kahramanmaraş were determined and the identity of the city was defined. It is aimed to develop the
reflection of the values that add identity to the city to the landscape architecture studies by demonstrating the
importance of urban development. In line with this purpose, cultural values that give Kahramanmaraş an
identity have been analyzed and suggestions have been made.
