Instrument training has an important place in professional music education institutions. In addition to instrument education in which the student exhibits instrument playing behavior, playing together is also a part of this education. There is a very limited repertoire related to the content of this course, which takes its place in the program with different names such as Orchestra, Playing Together, Playing Together, Collective Performance, Collective Music, Chamber Music. In this course, the content of which is shaped by the teacher in charge, small form works and folk song arrangements belonging to the repertoire of string instruments are generally played. Due to the essence of the course, the repertoire of classical western music cannot be played due to the lack of instruments or some difficulties in terms of performance. Naturally, playing together, which should be coordinated with instrument training, is insufficient in terms of content. American composer Jeff Manookian's arrangement of works from the classical western music repertoire for string orchestra is one of the leading studies in this field. Manookian arranged symphonic and operatic works for string orchestra in easy tonalities and used a simple orchestration. Thus, it is thought that the student will have the opportunity to get to know and examine western music works more closely by playing as an orchestra member in coordination with instrument training. In this study, Jeff Manookian's arrangements of western music works for string orchestra were analyzed in terms of content and the works included were defined. The place of the findings of the analysis in instrument and ensemble playing education is also examined and the results are shared. It is considered that the study can be a model for the development of the repertoire of youth orchestras in our country and can guide composers and conductors working in this field.
