Özet:

A special learning disability is defined as difficulties in reading, writing, and performing

mathematical operations, despite having a normal or above-normal intelligence. Attention

deficit, reading difficulties, poor motor skills, writing problems, language problems, lack of

social skills, numerical skills, problems, and characteristics of children with specific learning

difficulties are seen as problems of information processing. In order to effectively support and

maintain the learning processes of children with SLD, it is important to use scientifically

based practices by teachers. There are many studies that report that the use of BDUs causes

positive effects and changes in the development of children affected by inadequacy. In other

words, research shows that if teachers correctly apply the teaching methods that they will use

in the education of children with SLD, these applications are effective applications that

support the development of children.

In this study, it is aimed to examine the opinions of teachers working with children diagnosed

with SLD about the scientifically based methods used by children with SLD in their

education. In the research, phenomenology method was used as one of the qualitative research

models. Phenomenology is a qualitative research method used to describe people's

understanding of a particular perception, situation, event or concept, their emotions,

perspectives and how they experience that perception, situation or event. In the research, the

data were collected by semi-structured interview technique. 47 Teachers working with

individuals with special learning disabilities and working in Special Education and

Rehabilitation Centers in Istanbul's districts participated in the study. The selection of the

participants was based on volunteerism and ‘easily accessible situation sampling’ was used

from the ‘purposeful sampling’ methods.

At the end of the research, it was concluded that although teachers take a positive approach to

scientifically based applications, find them useful and support them, their level of knowledge

about these applications is low and limited, and they also use these applications very rarely. It

is suggested that in-service trainings for these applications should be given taking into

account the findings obtained from the research, and that teachers should investigate these

applications and improve themselves in order to obtain accurate information about BDUs. It is

also recommended that courses for these applications be given during undergraduate studies.
