İrfan Karakoç currently works as an assistant professor in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Before that, he worked at Bilkent University, The Economic and Social History Foundation of Turkey, Istanbul Bilgi University and Ozyegin University as research assistant, editor and instructor. He received his MA in 1999. His PhD degree, which he began pursuing at the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), Paris, was completed in the Department of Turkish Literature at Bilkent University, Ankara, in 2012. His dissertation was titled “The Process of Nation Building and Construction of Turkish Literature (1923-1950)”.  Dr. Karakoç won a fellowship from The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) to pursue his research at Princeton University in the Department of Near Eastern Studies for the academic year 2010-2011. Among his research interests are the history of Ottoman press, Ottoman/Turkish modernization, cultural policies, nationalism, gender and masculinity studies.
