Biography

He was born on October 18, 1974, in Balıkesir, Turkey. He received his bachelor's degree from Istanbul University, Department of Geography, in 1997. He completed his master's degree in 2000 and his doctoral studies in 2005 at Istanbul University, Department of Physical Geography. He was appointed Associate Professor in Physical Geography in 2010 and became a full Professor in 2015. Between 2012 and 2018, he served in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Humanities and Letters, Ardahan University. In 2013, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Scientist Award (GEBİP) by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in the field of Social Sciences (Geography).

His research focuses on Late Quaternary–Holocene coastal morphodynamics, examining the evolution of coastal systems in response to climate changes and sea-level fluctuations. Within this scope, he studies paleoshorelines, modern and relict dunes, eolianites (fossil dunes), beachrocks (fossil beaches), and marine terraces, focusing on their facies architectures. He evaluates the depositional environments of these units through micropaleontological analyses, grain size distributions, XRF, XRD, SEM-EDX, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and various physicochemical proxy analyses. For stratigraphic dating, he utilizes TL, OSL, and AMS 14C methods, while geophysical methods such as ERT are employed to characterize subsurface structures. His interdisciplinary approach reveals high-resolution responses of coastal systems to natural and anthropogenic influences, providing original contributions to regional paleogeographic reconstructions and coastal evolution. In recent years, he has also focused on assessing ecological risks in lakes, rivers, and coastal systems in Turkey, evaluating increasing environmental pressures through multidisciplinary methods.

His research articles have been published in leading journals in the field, including Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences, Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies, Environmental Forensics, Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, Geoheritage, Tectonophysics, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Quaternary International, Aeolian Research, Geodinamica Acta, Sedimentary Geology, Journal of Coastal Research, Quaternary Science Reviews, Geomorphology, Journal of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics, Geografiska Annaler Series A-Physical Geography, Zeitschrift für Geomorphologie, and Catena.
