Dr. Berkant Sezer was born in Zonguldak, Türkiye. Following his primary education, which he completed as the top-ranked student of his class, he graduated from Zonguldak Science High School. He received his DDS degree with high honors from the School of Dentistry, Gazi University, where he studied between 2010 and 2015. In 2016, he began his specialty training in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Marmara University School of Dentistry, and completed his residency in 2020 with his thesis titled "Molar-incisor hypomineralization: Evaluation of treatment approaches with different remineralization agents", earning the title of Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry.
In September 2020, Dr. Sezer was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in February 2023. Dr. Sezer is among the youngest scholars to receive this academic title in the field of health sciences in Türkiye, and the youngest to be awarded the title in the field of Pediatric Dentistry in the country.
He served as the Chair of the newly established Young TPD Commission of the Turkish Society of Pediatric Dentistry (TPD) during the 2022–2024 term.
In 2018, he was awarded a highly competitive international scholarship by the University of Washington, one of only two recipients worldwide, and participated in the Summer Institute in Dental and Craniofacial Clinical Research Methodsheld in Seattle, WA, USA. In 2017, he received the Travel Fellowship award from the European Organisation for Caries Research (ORCA) for his research in the field of minimal intervention dentistry, presented in Oslo, Norway. Together with his research team, he was honored with the Borrow and Colgate Travel Awards by The European Association of Dental Public Health (EADPH) in Mallorca, Spain (2018) and Ghent, Belgium (2019). In 2024, he received the Japanese Society of Pediatric Dentistry Travel Award for Young Researchers at the 3rd Global Summit of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry, held in Porto, Portugal.
Dr. Sezer is a member of the editorial boards of BMC Oral Health, BMC Medical Education, and BMC Pediatrics (indexed in Web of Science SCI-E, Q1 category), and Case Reports in Dentistry (ESCI indexed). He also serves as the section editor for Pediatric Dentistry at Clinical and Experimental Health Sciences (ESCI indexed), and acts as a reviewer for numerous national and international peer-reviewed journals.
Since the beginning of his publishing career in 2022, Dr. Sezer has consistently ranked as the faculty member with the highest number of articles published in SCI and SCI-Expanded indexed journals at his institution for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024. In recognition of his academic accomplishments, he was awarded the "Top Academic Achievement Award" by his institution in 2025.
His research interests include molar-incisor hypomineralization and other developmental enamel defects, minimal intervention dentistry and remineralization agents, public oral health, contemporary restorative materials, forensic odontology, and dental education.
