Prof. HASAN TATLI

Hasan TATLI is a Professor of Physical Geography with formal training in atmospheric sciences and meteorological engineering, having received his BSc, MSc, PhD, and Associate Professorship degrees from Istanbul Technical University. His research focuses on the nonlinear dynamics of the climate system, including regime transitions, multiscale atmospheric interactions, and system stability under time‑dependent external forcing.

He develops physically interpretable reduced‑order and non‑autonomous dynamical system models to represent complex atmospheric processes. His work integrates bifurcation theory, threshold behavior, long‑memory processes, and scale‑selective nonlinear interactions to investigate drought, heatwaves, extratropical jet regime variability, and rapid‑onset meteorological hazards. Reanalysis products (ERA5) and CMIP6 climate projections are used to examine regime persistence and irreversible transitions through phase‑space and spectral‑based approaches.

He is the author of A four‑dimensional nonlinear dynamical model for an integrated early warning system of rapid‑onset meteorological hazards, published in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. His computational work is primarily conducted using Fortran (90/95/2000) for numerical solution of dynamical systems, complemented by R (including Shiny), Python, and MATLAB for time‑series analysis, spectral diagnostics, and model evaluation. He also employs QGIS, Ferret, and Surfer for spatial analysis and visualization, and Statistica and SPSS for advanced statistical analyses.
